Can we double our playerbase this week?

This Week:

This week we are asking players to tell everyone they can about Medievia. We just won the bid for zMud icon placement for the year. The winning bid we will pay is $5,010. The reason I mention this is that we want to track that well, and it will start in March. I really wanted to get a good player drive going first so that leaves us just this week.

This is the week to act!

BEFORE when you told a friend about Medievia it was hard for them to play.

NOW it is so much easier for them to learn the game! Just point them to the www site and they should be ok. Make sure to tell them your player name. The LEARN module and a hundred other small changes to the newbie experience have made it easier than ever to play and have fun right from the start. It is twice as much fun from level 1 to 20 and it is twice as easy to learn the game.

Simply tell people about the cool adventures you have here, and how much fun it would be if they were here.

Simply tell people about how you log in and are surrounded by friends that you adventure with in your world away from home.

Simply tell them this week! This is the week.

This is the week! If everyone here found us one player we would double our playerbase. It is that easy.

The mother of all games ever made is a text game called Medievia!

Thanks for reading. Thanks for helping! Decide now who to tell and when!

Updates from the WOM Department

We would like to officially congratulate Aewen on her position as WOM assistant (WOMA) and her promotion to level 140. This position will enable us to open more zones effectively, while working on the various projects we are currently doing. Grats Aewen!

The following zones are being removed from the testing phase, so you can consider them fully implemented zones:

  • Lucynde's Challenge
  • Forest of the Undead
  • Fandi Isle
  • The M'Lanchai Edeterai Borough

We are anticipating a few more zones opening in the near future (hopefully within the next couple of weeks). Also, many of the current low-level xp zones are being re-vamped in how they work; HELP SUGGESTED will be updated as these changes are made. As some of you may have noticed, many new objects have been and will continue to be made, edited, and tweaked as needed. Expect several changes in the next few weeks while we test the waters.

On a side note, please send any constructive critism/complaints to wom@medievia.com. While all ideas are considered, we reserve the right to make our own decisions. We're just good like that.

Politics Update

We are still making changes to the politics feature as we try to find methods that work better.

The amount to declare as a candidate is changed from 70 million to 50 million gold and whomever becomes governor or mayor are reimbursed that entry fee.

The politics channel is no longer open to every one. Only clan leaders, co-leaders, candidates, and the Governor/Mayor can speak on the channel. They can speak much faster though so it is not all bad. They can speak every 30 seconds when the Governor or Mayor is online and every three minutes when they are not. Any clan leader or co-leader abusing this privilege will be gagged instantly. The reason behind this change is very simple. We have to gag so many people who do not use the channel correctly, either by mistake or on purpose, that the whole game suffers a sadness. Having to gag so many people is just not good for moral. So now no more gags, or at least no where near as many. The sadness is that only clan leaders and co-leaders can use it. It is better this way. These changes are our last gasp attempts at finding ways the feature works that keeps people happy. Is this completely fair? No. Will it work better? Yes we think so or we would not make the change. The idea is that there will be a more free-flow of discussion as people can talk more often. It is just now a privlige to be able to do it.

With that said let us make something simple and clear. The politics channel can only be used if what you are saying is HONORABLE, WELL MEANT, and SINCERE.

Example that will get your clan leader gagged for 300 days:
"Vryce is ruining the game, it is too hard to get gold for non-heroes. He is running the game into the ground."

Example of how a more honorable person would say that:
"Vryce we feel that getting enough gold is getting to be too hard for
non-heroes. Has there been any discussion to fix it? We have a few ideas."

Example that will get your clan leader gagged 30 days:
"Governor Golio is an idiot."

Example of how a more honorable person would say that:
"We feel the governor has made a mistake. The LLCPK change just made is wrong because that zone is way too hard to be so low of a loot."

From now on when you become a clan leader you will have to learn something you may not already know, a skill to talk politically correct. LEARN IT or be gagged. Get gagged too many times and be forever banned from any clan leadership position.

So far this month has been pretty good. Governor Uribam and Mayor Antons are very helpful, sincere, and they are willing to make hard decisions. Please help them and use the politics channel to help polish the deepest game ever made. You can make real changes happen, but everyone demands respect when you are on a development team, and that is in essence what all of politics is.

Valentine's Day Mudslinger!

The snow has yet to thaw in many areas of the Real World (tm), yet time still marches apace. In a matter of a few weeks, Valentine's Day will be upon us once more. Once again, we shall be performing our annual duty to provide both the lovelorn and the loved with a chance to demonstrate their devotion in text.

Do you have a message of endearment? Are you suffering from unrequited love? Do you feel like proposing? We'll accept any messages that conform to the normal standards of good taste, whether named or anonymous.

As usual, we offer the chance for the message sender to have a rare item delivered to the object of their affections. The sender can choose one of the following two items:

**A graceful moth inside a green amber heart, dangling on a silver chain

**An exotic butterfly amaryllis planted in a prismatic bowl

Simply send your message, your name, and the words MOTH or BUTTERFLY, and we will do the rest. After honing our senses of irony to their finest, we ask that you send your messages to AEWEN. Both mudmail and email
( aewen@medievia.com) will work perfectly.

The closing date for entries is February 10th, so please spend a little time in thinking of your special message. Submissions after that date are not guaranteed to be included. Due to time restraints and such, please do not send in more than 10 valentine requests.

Groundhog Day!

Dunkel dropped his hammer and wiped his forehead with the back of his hand. He was sweating despite the bitter cold. "I'm getting too old for this kind of work," he thought. He looked at his handiwork; the fence was complete.

At the center of the enclosure was a small hole. Dunkel approached it quietly, though if all the hammering of the past two days hadn't waken her up, surely padded footsteps in the snow wouldn't either. He got down on his
knees and put his ear to the hole. Yes, there it was: a quiet, yet distinct snoring sound. She was still asleep.

Dunkel walked through the gate to the outside of the enclosure. He picked up a sign he had made a few days before and nailed it to the fence. It read:

____________________

Wurld Famus!!!
MEDSUTAWNEY MILLIE
Pridictor of the Wethr
Just 1 Gold Pease!
______________________

Dunkel rubbed his hands together briskly and cough to clear his throat. 'Tickets!' he shouted. 'Get your tickets here!'

Inside her den, Millie stirred in her sleep. She too was sweating despite the bitter cold, though her sweat didn't come from manual labor. She was in the grips of a terrifying nightmare--a nightmare she had had many times before...

She moved through the darkness toward the bright light at the end of the tunnel. Approaching it with caution and great trepidation, she poked her head through the opening. All at once, mass chaos! Dozens of people staring, pointing, yelling!

Millie let out a terrified shriek in her sleep and shivered with fear.

Note from the holiday staff:

For the first time in a few years, we are introducing a NEW holiday to the citizens of Medievia! Welcome to Groundhog Day! For those of you who don't live in the US, where this very silly holiday originated, or who may not have seen the famous movie based on its traditions, Groundhog Day is always February 2nd. The legend is that if a groundhog comes out of his hole this morning and sees his shadow, we'll have six more weeks of winter. If he doesn't see his shadow, spring will come early.

Ardothica (idea and writing) and Fayla (procs) have put together a fun and totally new holosection puzzle for this holiday, so cheers for them!

There are prizes for this holiday, silly and minor though it may be, so get out there, find the holosection (HELP HOLOSECTION), and enjoy!

The holosection will be placed and the celebration will begin at 9pm game time Wednesday night and will go until Thursday night, February 2nd.

New Learn Module

The new LEARN module is in which replaces the tutorial. The tutorial was good at teaching commands but it mis-represented what playing the game was like as the tutorial is closed, scripted, and solo - while playing Medievia is open gameplay, not scripted, and multiplayer to the max. People would leave thinking the whole game was like the Tutorial. The new LEARN system has players learning at their own pace, in the real game world, and does so in a much more fun way. Tell players to just keep doing LEARN NEXT to learn how to play.

Ten Year Anniversary of Medievia IV!

Today marks the ten year anniverary since Medievia IV opened! All day will be TRIPLE EXPERIENCE day! We have been Medievia V for some time now but still want to celebrate that fateful day everything changed. Do an ANNOUNCE 1 and read the first announcement! Did we know then that we would be here in ten years still making the game better everyday? YES, yes we did. Did we know it would take TEN YEARS to polish Medievia IV and make Medievia V? No, if we did we may have given up! We never stopped working though. Here is hoping it is not ten years to get to Medievia VI!
