New Ocean Mobfactions! Night Sirens and Fire Moths

Night sirens are ship mobfactions that only come at night.

No one knows what shape, form, or even what species night sirens are. There are rumors that they are shape shifters from the deep and that they climb aboard ships just to see the night sky. The one thing that is known for sure is that any male around them drops dead from love.

You will normally hear the night sirens before they climb onto the ship. This gives men a few seconds warning to run below decks and hand over the ship to the women.

Night sirens do not damage the ship but their arrival can throw many situations into a worse situation as men must remain below decks until the sirens are killed. The only way a man can survive a fight with a night siren is to kill them on the first blow.

Like all other ship mobfactions, these give HEROPOINTS, FAE, and GOLD when defeated.

Firemoths are giant flame colored moths that attack ships at night. They are man sized moths that have poison stingers, can attack with their wings, and bite you badly. The good news is that they can be fairly predictable.

Firemoths generally do not swarm together but at night most pregnant firemoths form up into large swarms for protection. After a time they become so large with babies that they can no longer sustain flight for long. It is at these times that they land on ships.

Once on the deck they crawl up to the rigging and start eating sails like a giant moth on a giant sweater. They can destroy a ships sails and rigging very quickly if they are left alone.

When the pregnant firemoth dies they often spill out their young in swarms. These babies are easy to kill but can be dangerous in high numbers as they have a hive mentality. The babies cannot fly yet and are afraid of the rigging so they tend to stay on the main decks.

Like all other ship mobfactions, these give HEROPOINTS, FAE, and GOLD when defeated.

Sloop Fae Race

Friday January 20th we will be having a Sloop Fae Race at 8pm gametime.

All sloop class ships that want to participate will be placed in close proximity at an undisclosed location on the ocean at 8pm. The sloop that returns to dock by midnight with the largest amount of fae will win.

The fae can be gotten any way desired: crabs - serpents - mobfactions. Attacking serpents with a sloop is dangerous so we assume most ships will head to the nearest fae crab harvest area when the gun sounds to start. At that time we also expect many ships to fire upon one another as they race to the nearest harvest area. What will actually happen? We do not know! It should prove to be entertaining.

Note that if a ship returns to dock with just 1 fae and the others have tons but do not get to the dock by midnight, then the sloop with 1 fae wins. The point here is that we will have a list of ships that returned to dock BEFORE midnight. The ship with the most fae wins, ships still at sea do not count. You cannot "GO BACK OUT" and collect more fae once you have returned fae. Once your ship returns to dock it is done.

If your clan captures one or more ships, all of these ships returned to dock by midnight are added fae wise for your score.

The top 10 finishers get 100 gold per fae collected and returned to dock.

The top finisher gets an extra 20 million gold and 10 DCs
The 2nd best gets an extra 15 million gold and 5 DCs
the 3rd best gets an extra 10 million gold and 3 DCs

Ships that have not entered the race are not allowed to attack ships that have, and are not allows to go crabbing until the race is over. Any ship doing so will be attacked by the DM constantly until sunk.

Good luck!

Zone Opening! The Caverns of Eternal Darkness by Calrog

On the 26th, this strange message arrived at the Trellor library, carried by a golden firedragon. It has been posted for all to see as a warning to any fools who venture within the Caverns of Eternal Darkness.

-=+=- -=+=- -=+=-

From the notebook of Tembulitus the bard... I make this final report to the library of Trellor so that any who are foolish enough to follow my footsteps might reconsider and not perish, as I will shortly. Some time ago, I made a report about the ancient city of Pallens'Astrum. The demons that haunted that city came from a hellish well located deep underground inside an ancient church. The church was once a bastion of good but now has been corrupted and taken deep underground.

Trying to be heroic, and with the hopes of winning a literary prize, I ventured through a hidden passageway that I found in a nearby ancient manor. Wisely, I traveled with a small company of soldiers and a few notable heroes. We traveled down the old cavernous tunnels, slaying demons as we came across them.

We encountered a small outpost of sanity within the demonic caverns. A brave knight, who in life defended the church, now attempts to reason with travelers and to keep the evil from growing. He calls his sanctum the Halls of Oblivion.

I will not speak of all the horrors we faced on our travel downward. After many hours of fighting, most of our company was slain, including several of our mighty heroes, but we kept going. We reached a pair of dark gates belonging to the ancient church. The gates blocked us from continuing onward to the dark well. Alas, that is as far as I reached as sudden darkness surrounded us and I blacked out. When I came to, I found myself caged and my companions dead. I write this final message in the hopes that others do not follow us. Only death can be found deep within these tunnels. You have been warned.

-=+=- -=+=- -=+=-

Dark priests have taken hold of a once holy church and brought forth demons to bring vengeance down upon all who venture within. The caverns leading to them are filled with horrors. It is known that some of the
priests worship red dragons.

Hear Ye Hear Ye: Call for Reporters!

The plans for Medievia 5.1 call for many types of jobs: local sheriffs, bounty hunters, priests, shipping, banker, etc. We only expect 40-80 players to use the JOBS feature that is coming for the next version but those jobs will affect everyone in countless ways. Many will be sheriffs, or kingdom army commanders, some very rich people will start their own bank or maybe fund a fleet of ships to go to afar. While we are not ready for all of that yet and are still finishing Medievia 5.0, we are ready for one job type.

The very first job that Medievians can hold is that of a Medievia MudSlinger Reporter. We are now ready to accept applicants to hold the positions of the very first Reporters!

The Medievia MudSlinger, often referred to as the 'Slinger' by its readers, is a publication written, for the most part, by the players. It's available at all good scribes within the game for just a few coins, so you can read it in the privacy of your clanhall in Medlink or on the WWW. You can also view the complete archives of all the articles since 1999 on the WWW.

Reporters are players who will volunteer to write about happenings within the realm of Medievia for the MudSlinger. They are players with good writing and grammatical skills who are willing to periodically write about their daily experiences and adventures. Reporters may write about such things as serpents, ship battles, dragon lairs, pk adventures, traderuns with mobfactions, interviews with players/gods, helpful articles/tips, news items, fiction, poetry, etc. Reporters may also be asked to cover certain specific features or events, such as elections. We aim to have an exciting and varied career for successful applicants.

Reporters will have a (Reporter) tag on their name so everyone knows who they are. When you see a reporter on your ship, in your lair, or on any adventure, you will know that they may write a short story about the adventure for all to read. There will be an area so everyone can see every Reporter’s work list for the past year so we all know who is working, who is not, who is the best, and who needs to be replaced. This will be competition and keeping your Reporter job will require you to be better at it than others as we will always be trying to replace our worst Reporter with someone who will try to do better, just like a real newspaper.

For the most part we want reporters to simply write about the adventures they witness that take place within the game world. These should be short factual fast reads with flare, flavor, and emotion. The type of articles Reporters provide is their personal decision, but Reporters must agree to write 2-3 quality articles per month to continue holding the position. Reporters can earn 20 millon gold for each submission with a limit of 100 million per month. In addition, MudSlinger Reporters will receive a medal and the coveted MudSlinger Press Quill.

Only apply if you are a very active player who often finds yourself knee deep in many of the most talked-about adventures. Do not apply if you are not a high level. Do not apply if you will never enter CPK. Do not apply unless, as a player, you are known to be brave enough to be on the front lines all of all types of adventures.

In order to become a Reporter you need to hold a genuine interest in writing articles for the MudSlinger. To apply, answer the questions below in an email to reporter@medievia.com. An acknowledgement of your application will be sent to you when it is received. We are planning to begin with 3-5 Reporters to see how the system works. We will then be hiring new Reporters as needed.

  1. List your mortal(s) name and levels achieved in Medievia.
  1. How long have you been playing Medievia?
  1. What past experience do you have in reporting and/or writing?
  1. Describe your education to us. This may be high school, college, or your own personal studies.
  1. Provide 1-2 paragraphs explaining why you wish to be a reporter for Medievia.
  1. In order to gain knowledge of your writing ability, please provide a concise (at most 3 paragraphs) account/ report/ story of one of the following events: Exciting Trade run with Mob Faction encounters, Serpent battle, Ship to Ship battle, PK encounter, Dragon Lair, or any other comparable event in Medievia.

Sigil of the Lost Adventurer Quest

A dozen ancient tokens of power have been scattered throughout the land by a dying elven highlord to stop the demon lord Astoroth from gaining them. The first hero who can recover the most items and present them to the
dark god Calrog will be rewarded with a item of remembrance from the guardians of Elysium. They are rumored to have been placed into the hands of minions as opposed to great kings and archfiends.

-=+=- -=+=- -=+=-

You will have from January 1st until March 1st to collect as many of the tokens as you can. You may trade them or sell them or keep them for yourself. Once the closing date is reached you will have one week to mail them to Calrog and the player with the most at the end of that week will gain the grand prize. The prize will be given out March 8th. This will be a unique item that will not be given away again.

If you have any questions please email calrog@medievia.com or mudmail Calrog.
