Quest Zone Building Applications

As we have just opened Ezekiel's Mansion (zone 581) we are going to move forward with the project of making zone quests. Currently we have The Maze of Vagenhor (z295) and Ezekiel's Mansion which are being run as what would be called "Major" zone quests. We will run with two types of zone quests, Major and Minor.

Both zone types will follow set guidelines and will have to follow a general overall theme, this means you will not have as much scope as you would with a normal zone but you will have slightly different requirements as well.

Anyone that is familiar with either z295 or z581 is welcome to apply for a new level 128 position called Quest Zone Builder. These builders will design and build either a Major zone or a Minor zone (Holozones).

This role follows the same requirements as HELP BUILDING.

Please send any applications to Nykaul@medievia.com and Selthios@medievia.com. Make sure your application clearly states you are applying to be a quest zone builder and not a regular builder as these are different roles.

The current theme we are looking at is to link in with the storyline established by Elysium/Ezekiel's Mansion/Hell Quest.

The Kraken

Yet another creature living in the Medievian seas has been discovered - The Kraken!

The kraken is a mobfaction mob created by the DM to attack ships. The kraken is a giant squid seamonster that climbs up and onto the ship. It does not move as it cannot support its weight that well out of water. It has long multi-mob arms that extend out and feel around the ship. They pull victims back to the beast. The kraken is almost impossible to kill until you defeat all of its arms. Each arm is basically a squad of mobs that act together to represent the arm. When you kill a section of the arm, all of the mobs out to the tip die as well. The arms tend to come back in when being attacked. The main beast has an incredibly nasty attack when it has arms and should not be attacked until all or most of the arms are dead. The kraken will knock you out of the room once you are hurt.

Defeating the kraken gains the ship FAE magic, the attackers gain GOLD and HEROPOINTS.

Since the kraken does not damage the ship, it can be left to kill other nasties if that is a good plan.

Directed Politics for September 2005: Zone Revamps!

Many of you have been enjoying 2xp for quite a while now. It has given you a chance to explore some of Medievia's older or lesser-traveled zones. For this month's political election, we'd like to hear ideas on how to spruce up some of these older zones to bring them in line with the more popular zones. Is there a zone out there that is imaginative and beautifully written, but perhaps the mobs are too hard for the level or the rewards aren't worth it? It there a zone that needs more mobs? Less mobs? On the other hand, is there a zone with great xp or equipment, but the writing or zone design just isn't up to par?

Let's hear your thoughts on these older and less popular zones, and see how we can make them worth visiting again! Two reminders: If you see specific typos in a zone, please use the TYPO command instead of bringing it up on politics. Secondly, our builders have spent many many hours designing their zones, and are quite proud of them (and we're proud of our builders!). Please keep that in mind when you're discussing possible changes. We want more players to enjoy these zones, but we don't want hurt feelings in the process.

Firesticks

Another ocean mobfaction has arrived- Firesticks! Firesticks are a mobfaction that climbs onto ships and attacks players and pretty much everything else.

The firesticks are man sized insectoids from the ocean. Fae magic ripples around them like an external blood supply. They rip pieces of themselves off and transform the pieces into a knives that they throw. These odd creatures look like man sized stick figures but they can be very dangerous.

If any player casts a spell in a room with one of these firesticks, the firestick explodes and the ship room catches fire. This is to be avoided at all costs as fires on a ship at sea are very dangerous. The firesticks act like a squad and as a whole move from one part of the ship to another. They do not damage the ship unless they explode so there is no great urgency to defeat them. It is often wise, like many ship mobfactions, to trap them in a hold when they attack that area by closing the hatches. Then you can knock them off at your own speed.

Like FAECRABS, firesticks tend to go to the rigging in a lighting storm and always try to get to the hold when in a firestorm or a magic storm.

Firesticks give normal fae, heropoints, and gold when defeated.

Quest Zone Opening - Ezekiel's Mansion

-= QUEST ZONE OPENING =-
Ezekiel's Mansion
Builder: Calrog
The following is all the researchers in the great library of Trellor have found about the place.

Writings of the bard Tembulitus:

I compose this on the day of Honor, 9th day of the Month of Medievia's Birth Moon, Year 541. After more than a year I make the following report.

Abigail, the Faerie Queen, bestowed Ezekiel the estate for his great deeds before her death. Astoroth, an evil demon, has sent his servants to the mansion to corrupt it, just as he sent Buer to the gardens of Elysium and Chiron to the castles of Medievia.

Astoroth has stolen the key to the barrier of faerie magic which protects the mansion from his demons--and from mortals. He seeks cunning heroes to enter the mansion and slay the elven forces residing inside.

Because of the demons' assault the elven knights have bolstered the mansion's defenses. The Darkwatch Guards, Thalyn, have taken up residence within the mansion and are ready to stop any intruder. They are said to be some of the fiercest elven knights.

Rumors also say the elf lord Thri'linadar, a mighty hero of the battles with the evil dragon, now lives at the mansion. These same rumors speak of a frost wyrm called Inyukiein. It is said that the wyrm was captured by Ezekiel in ages past and still harbors a thirst for vengeance on the mage. No reason can be found as to why the wyrm resides within the mansion.

Ezekiel spends nearly all his time helping to defend Elysium, but his apprentice, Seoman, and several manservants still maintain the mansion in proper order and keep powerful objects of magic within its confines.

When Astoroth stole the mansion's key he also used foul magic to send the demon Fen'rais inside. Although the demon is now trapped within the mansion he still has access to the blacksmiths of hell.

Astoroth has made a pact with the gods of Medievia for the mansion key, and any others he can acquire, to be offered to the heroes of Medievia.

News from the Governor and Mayor- Clan Profiles!

Greetings all,

Cheers for the first news from this month's political team. I would've written one earlier, but spamming you all with lovely yellow news flags. While we're still not through all the ideas that have been sent in, I'm happy to announce the first change for this month, Clan Profiles!

Clan profiles have been built as a resource for clan recruitment, which enables leaders a chance to express what their clan is all about. With informative help such as recruiting requirements and activity times to a more personal insight into the clan's personality traits and overall goals, we're hoping this encourages clans to continue growing with players being able to quickly find the clan that suits them and their gaming styles best. With huge thanks to Fayla and everyone else who had a say in this matter, clan profiles are up and ready to be edited, so go do it!

Lastly I wanted to say a thank you to everyone who voted this month, and a special thanks to Dandiana who has kept me calmed, cool, and collected for the first few hectic days while we work together through all the idea spam.

Until the next happy news spam,
The Politics Team,
Governor Adonia
Mayor Dandiana

Two New MedLink Shoppes!

Thanks to the hard work of Calrog and Ardothica, two new shoppes have opened for business in MedLink, Medievia's primary social gathering place.

These stores are the MedLink Souvenir Shop and Little Angel's Gift Boutique.

Make sure to check them out!

The Emerald Kah

Once again, the courageous adventurers of Medievia's seas have encountered a magical race living beneath the waters. The Kah are a race of snake people that live in the ocean. There will be many types, good and bad, along with wars between them. The first Kah that has been encountered is the Emerald Kah. They help Medievians battle the threats of the seas.

These massive snake people are twenty feet long and as thick as a man's chest. They hold their head held high and are very alert. Their heads are a mix between a man, a snake, and a dolphin, but their most human aspect is their four arms and hands. The gods admire their grace and strength as well as their courage and beauty. The Emerald Kah's colorings are of all shades of green in fractal patterns that show off the fae magic that saturates their body. The fae magic on the Emerald Kah looks different than other beasts of the ocean.

The Dungeon Master will create these Emerald Kah for no reason, and also send them when it feels you need help. They appear circling your ship. They will circle your ship for a good 20 minutes but will not help unless you ask.

To ask for help, one player must be fighting something on the ship whilst another player gets to the crows nest and shouts "HELP!", or any sentence with the word help will work. The Emerald Kah will hear the alert, stop circling the ship, and head to it. Once there they climb aboard and start helping as best as they can. After a time and when they find no further threat they will jump off the ship and start circling again.

If they have enough kills on your ship they will not jump off to circle your ship, they will jump off and ride the bow of the ship! They ride it like dolphins would except they give massive speed increases. They start doubling your speed and slowly lose power to a 20% increase.

If they jumped off and are circling or riding the bow and you need help again, just do the same as before. Have someone fighting a mob and another in the crows nest shouting for help.

For more information about the Kah, be sure to read HELP KAH from within the game.

New Zone!

-= ZONE OPENING =-
The M'Lanchai Edeterai Borough
Builder: Arethusa

It was a starless night, and no moon was visible over the fields. Marjhetta had settled into her humble dwelling when outside a commotion was heard. Breaking free of the comforts of home, she tore into the street. The silky black of night covered her thin frame, and a gusting wind ripping at the trees was all that could be heard. An inner voice screamed in her head, "Breaana!" A terror unlike anything else ripped at her heart, and deep inside she knew her only daughter was gone from this world.

As days melted into weeks, weeks into months, the incident seemed forgotten by the townspeople, and she was left to fend for herself. Today, many only know her as an evil witch-woman who contentedly feeds her birds.

Suspicious and alone, years passed, and Marjhetta developed and harbored with her a deep hatred for her daughter's betrothed. Only weeks after searching, he settled with a prettier girl with a wealthier family. The families combined created a prosperous farming community, and Eodai, now the mayor, ruled, his pockets were lined with gold. Marjhetta suspected what no
one would say, that her daughter was removed so that Eodai would be free to marry another.

Ten years after the incident, a mysterious stone emerged. Its purpose was unknown to many, and the townspeople repeatedly tried to destroy it. Day by day, however, the stone slowly appeared again in a shallow hole near the graveyard. Several days after its appearance, terror struck the town, and each morning since then brings a crop of new corpses. It seems some new
evil lurks in the shadowy depths of night, concealed in the bluish black. A witch-woman smiles for the first time in a decade; her protege has risen, and with a steady head she brings the meaning of revenge.

Suggested Levels:
=================
Solo: 16-20
Small Group: 13-15
Large Group: 10-13

Congratulations to Arethusa for opening her fourth zone! The M'Lanchai Edeterai Borough is mainly an experience zone with a few puzzles to solve. The zone is for players with a current level of 20 and below. Thank you to Evelina for editing the rooms and Kostia and Marisol for editing the objects and mobs. Thank you to Fayla for coding the procs. Congrats again to Arethusa!

-Ardothica
p.s. Remember to e-mail wom@medievia.com with any suggestions or problems with the zone. Please use the TYPO command to report typos in room or with mob and object descriptions. Thanks!

Searams are here!

Ocean explorers around Medievia have once again found a critter living in the seas- Searams!

Searams often gather around a ship and attack it. They are the size of a killer whale, with the head of a hammerhead shark, and have a large dorsal fin covered in poisonous needles. Searams travel in pods, sometimes there can be multiple pods attacking your ship at the same time.

A pod of searams will typically surface near your ship and slowly circle it. At some point the searams usually stop, and then after a time, they make a ramming attack on the ship.

For more information about this newest threat from the sea, read HELP SEARAMS in the game.
