Come Aboard, Me Matey!

Come one, come all, help us in our battles! Players who aren't in the clan that owns a ship can now request permission to board the ship. To request permission to board a ship, use the SHIP REQUEST command. The captain of the ship will get a message indicating that you wish to board, and must approve or deny your request. If the captain approves the request, you can then use the SHIP GOTO command to go to that ship. If the captain denies your request, you cannot use the SHIP GOTO command, nor can you request boarding permission again. Read HELP BOARDING in the game for more information!

Enormous Aquoderms

The ships sailing the seas around Medievia have recently discovered a new type of sea critter - Enormous Aquoderms!

Aquoderms are nasty giant sea worms that attack ships. Their strength is based on distance from Medievia. They climb aboard all at once and try to head below decks for some reason. Aquoderms are very vocal and they can call for help. If an aquoderm makes it up to the crows nest it will bellow out a call for help and many more aquoderms may climb aboard the ship. These beasts are very large and unform players with tail whips and bite attacks. When an aquoderm kills a player it becomes stronger.

Since aquoderms tend to try to head below, a common and smart tactic would be to let them down and close the hatches, trapping them in. They do tend to knock open a hatch on occasion. The main plan should always start with not allowing one into your crows nest.

When an aquoderm dies on the ship, fae magic is collected. This mobfaction also gives heropoints and gold when defeated.

[worn over the heart] The Spirit of Medievia

From Vryce-

Medievia V is truly taking shape before our eyes. We hope everyone is as excited as the staff is about finally tying all of these new features together. The internal core of Medievia V is done; the AI is done, the DM is done, Ships are done. Now we use these modules, as designers, and paint in all of the mobfactions and game dynamics. The next few months will be a lot of fun for all players as the game truly takes its largest step ever! Medievia IV created the planet - and Medievia V brings it to life! The land and the ocean, the clans and the towns, they are about to meet in ways that will fill our dreams with adventure. Leaders will be made. Wars will be fought. The age will turn and Kingdoms will rise, and it all starts now. With this playerbase. With us.

A look at our past:
Medievia once, a long time ago - in the past millennium, reached a newheight in muds. We started having 300 players online at once during prime time. We grew to 350 as Medievia IV became stable, balanced and more feature-rich. In June of 2000 we took a big step and marketed the game for the first time. We put a one time full page ad in PCGamer magazine which cost $15,500. We grew from 350 to 600 online at prime time. We started working on Medievia V. We have not marketed since except for one $1,100 ad in Dragon magazine in early 2001. This was a mistake. It was a business mistake not to keep marketing the game even during the time we were making massive changes. I can make many excuses but none are good.

The look to our future:
Medievia will start to market full time. Starting in the December issue of PCGamer we will run a small ad every month until November of 2006. During this time we will also place other print ads here and there. Right now no one knows about Medievia. If you poll 1000 gamers on the street you may find a few who have heard of it, maybe even one who plays it. Soon a decent portion of that 1000 will say, yes, isn't that the text MMORPG I keep seeing in PCGamer? Some of these people will come to Medievia. You know what they will find; the deepest most feature rich and social multi-player RPG ever made. We want 1000 online at prime time. We need you to help make it happen. Medievia V is upon us. It is time to fill it with players.

The new donation item:
The Spirit of Medievia
50 Hitpoints 50 Mana -1ss

The cost is $50. This item, if purchased before the end of the year, will last forever to thank the current playerbase for helping us go through all of the Medievia V changes. Starting in 2006 it will have the typical 365 day det. We currently are breaking even business-wise and cannot afford to market the game. This item's revenue will go towards ensuring that we start marketing and that we never stop.

If there was ever a time to support our game, to support our way of life in this game, now is that time. This is the playerbase that will kick Medievia into popular culture. First we need to get to 1000 online. Then we can afford to make sure every serious gamer knows that a text game has been built, and it will never go away, called Medievia. Other games come and go, and need to rebuild and purge playerbases. Medievia is as forever as the written word and our need to communicate. This text game has a world these new players will lose themself in unlike anything they have experienced in their past game life. You know what we have here! Lets spread the news.

Please lead good clans. Please make great friends. Please continue to fill Medievia with magic, and please think about purchasing the Spirit of Medievia.

Thanks for supporting the game you love,

-Vryce

Directed Politics for August 2005: Clan Recruiting!

As many of you can attest, one of the best things about Medievia is the strong social bonds that people develop here. For many players, clans can become like a second family. We want to make it easier for players new to the game to be able to connect with clans that meet their needs and interests. The tools we have in the game right now are good, but don't always work. For example, new players looking at clanrank for ideas on what clan to join may not find the best fit in a power clan.

We want to develop ways for new players to find clans that they would fit in with well, whether that means a power clan, newbie clan, trading clan, CPK clan, or any other combination. In addition to game interests, things like activity, peak hours, and attitude all make a different on
how well a new player will fit in.

For this election, I'd like to see candidates come up with ideas on how to match good clans with new players. I think we'd all like to see our fellow players find their best fit!

Tonight at 11pm gametime we will be holding a 'Catch of the Day' tournament with fae crabs. HELP FAECRABS gives details about this mobfaction. Got Crabs?

The ocean surrounding Medievia is now ALIVE with Fae Crabs. Medievians can take their ships to special harvesting areas in the sea to collect fae magic. Beware, because the creatures that hold this magic are large, fierce and they love to gang up and destroy your ship! The Dungeon Master will be creating the ocean harvest areas, but for testing purposes we will keep one going in the Sea of Infinity - about 100 rooms north of Moon Island.

Be sure to read HELP FAE CRABS in the game to get more info on the first ocean Mob Faction.

Very soon SHIP INVITE will be implemented, and soon after that, clanrank will change and we will start charging for more ship related things. This next week will feature 3 to 4 new ship mobfactions, both good and bad. As time goes on we will charge more and more for ship features, and adjust clanrank ever closer to the plan for Medievia V.

Internet connection update

We were down for some time overnight for a full intrusive test, which was Verizon attempting to problem solve our Internet problems of late. The problem still exists and they say they now know what its not but do not know what the problem is. We are continuing to research the problem. Please hang in there with us as we troubleshoot the situation.

Medievia is back online!

As of 12:35 pm EST, Medievia is back online. We are still awaiting a diagnosis from US LEC to see if they found any solutions in testing.

Internet Connection

After a week USLec and Verizon have both failed to find the cause of our 3-5 times a day Internet outages that last from 2 to 15 minutes. We will be running tests on the line for a few hours today, starting at 10:30 am EST. During this time the game and website will be down. We hope to be back up by 1:00 pm.

An Important Announcement from the Quest Department

As of approximately 12:40 AM system time, there will be no quests that require the Medievia Quest Daemon module to run. There is a bug that is causing the game to crash.

Quests that do not require the module, such as scrapple, will still be ran.

If you have any questions, please contact Selthios (Quest Department Manager).

The Shoppes of MedLink

The many shops of MedLink, which have been under construction for many years (as a lot of our older players know), have finally been opened!

Originally constructed by the former MedLink Manager Kalise, the shops are now open to the public thanks to Medievia’s new WOMs, Arethusa and Ardothica.

Each shop offers unique and exciting product offerings.

The following shops are now open:
  • The Dragonback Lounge
  • The Dragonback Restaurant
  • Ye Olde Ice Cream Shoppe
  • McDraggie's Delight
  • Belle's Toy Shop
  • Hats, Hats and More Hats
  • A Quaint Flower Shop

Also, the Medievia Mudslinger Publishing Office has been opened.

So if you’re in the mood for some of the Dragonback’s award-winning roast rack of hippogriff or one of Ye Olde Ice Cream Shoppe’s frozen hero on a stick, then check out the newly opened Shoppes of MedLink!

New WOMs Named

The Medievia Staff is proud to announce the promotion of Ardothica and Arethusa to World Object Mobile Manager (WOM).

Ardothica and Arethusa both previously held the title of World Object Mobile Manager Assistant. They are now total level 142, which reflects their managerial responsibilities and duties in the WOM Department.

If you note an imbalance in the game or have any recommendations for the WOM Team, feel free to e-mail them at wom@medievia.com.

Congratulations Ardothica and Arethusa, keep up the great work!

Medievia Update

Clan Ships are in and Medievians are creating ships and setting sail around the great Medievia continent. To date, 157 ship names have been registered, and about 100 ships are set to sail. Ships have ammunition and arms available to them. Several battles have already taken place and logs are being prepared for publishing on Medievia News. Do you have a scrollback log of a ship battle? Send it in!

The Attack from Afar is worse than ever! Hellreaper's flying citadel appears at least twice daily and Hellraider is still out and about crucifying at will. Not to mention those massive Giant Sea Slugs that trample and kill everyone in their paths. Help us rid Medievia of this evil infestation!

Voting was at an all-time low until the votes reset at Topmudsites. We are now #3 and hope to stay that way until the next reset! Please take a minute to Vote for Medievia.

We need your news!
Do you have any Medievia news? Clan leader changes? Clan creations? CPKs of note? Ship battles? Heroings? Superior mob faction battles? Send your news to Medievia News!! Email Aewen or Kimetan.

News from the Shipyard

If your ship is damaged, you can now use Shipadmin Repair to repair your broken vessel. Your ship must be in dock for the repairs to take place. The gods of Medievia have graciously allowed ship repairs to be done free of charge right now. Eventually repair costs will be determined by how much damage needs to be repaired.

Are you unsure where your ship is heading? The Ship Status command now shows whether your ship is docked, in safe waters, or in hazardous waters.

Although the undead often wander the world of Medievia, they can no longer control ships. Dead players cannot use the Ship or Shipadmin commands.

Afraid of CPK? Fear no more!

Partial Multi-Level Requirement (MLR) loss has now been implemented for Loot-limit Chaotic Playerkill. Now when you are killed by a player in Loot Limit CPK (LLCPK) you do not lose a whole level. For example, if the loot limit is 2 you lose 20% of the previous level requirements for experience, auto-quests, trading, and gathering eggs in the Catacombs. If it is 5 loots you lose 50%, and so on. If it is 10+ loots, it's just like normal CPK and you lose the whole level. If the percentage of your MLRs that you lose means you no longer have enough for your current level, you will lose the level.

So, if you were hesitant to enter CPK before, you should try it out now. We need your help in ridding Medievia of the the infestation from afar!

Trouble on the High Seas?

With the recent implementation of clan ships, we are looking for your ship experiences to share on this blog!

Have a scroll-back log or two of an exciting sea battle?

Did you capture a humorous moment on the sea?

If so, please e-mail your cleaned-up (formatted in a presentable manner) log/tale to Kimetan.

To your battlestations!

Clan Ship owners now have the ability to buy guns and ammunition for their ships. Make sure to read SHIPCHANGES in the game to find out the latest additions and changes to this long-awaited feature.

Clan Ships are in

Clan Ships are now in full-time! Clans can create, name, and sail their ships. Some of the first ships created were already captured and several large collisions have been spotted. Ships will soon have guns and ammunition, so be careful out there!

To get up-to-date on the Clan Ship info visit the Clan Ship Webpage and Help Ships.

It has been said that great sea serpents live in the seas surrounding Medievia. It is doubtful that they will appreciate their calm waters being disturbed. Will YOU become a Serpenthunter?

The Infestation from Afar Continues...

Let it be known that a massive flying citadel has been spotted over our fair realm of Medievia. This newest attack from afar is lead by Hellreaper, a master mage and demon from afar. He reigns over his flying citadel and the Legion of the Damned zombies that do his dirty work for him. To defeat Hellreaper and rid Medievia of the infestation, brave Medievians must enter the citadel, find and kill zombies, and collect enough souls to be able to battle against the Hellreaper himself. But beware, as this is chaotic playerkill, there may be other Medievians with different plans!

500,000 lines of code!

Medievia's main game programming today achieved an amazing thing! It now totals over 500,000 lines of C++. This is not boasting about the kind of fluff code that any Windows application includes--this is pure logic programming. This code is as tight as can be, with every byte used only after careful consideration about ways to do it faster or tighter. This game needs to process almost 2,000 commands every second without any CPU lag. These 500,000 lines of code represent fifteen years of work, and the fact that it is done while supporting a living and breathing world that must remain stable is amazing. Thanks go to Ozymandias, Fayla, Masou, and many others for being brilliant and innovative.

Medievia is a work of art, and it is a masterpiece. The code that makes it tick is some of the best in the world!

DOUBLE EXPERIENCE until 6pm tomorrow!

-Vryce

CRUCIFIED!

Your heart skips a beat as you sense pure evil nearby
Hellraider has arrived
Hellraider calmly walks towards Ginia while laughing at her!
Hellraider grabs your head with both hands and you feel all of your energy sucked away!
You fall to the ground, totally incapacitated!
Something seizes you by the back of the neck and drags you painfully a short distance.
Something seizes you by the back of the neck and drags you painfully a short distance.
Something seizes you by the back of the neck and drags you painfully a short distance.
Something seizes you by the back of the neck and drags you painfully a short distance.
Hellraider painfully grasps your arms and legs and pushes you onto a large cross lying on the ground.
Red lightning crashes across the sky and shoots into a cross in the immediate area.
Hellraider kneels down slowly, as if kneeling is beneath him. He grabs your left hand, holds it down, and drives a nail through your hand and into the cross.
The firestorm seems to calm down a bit...
Red lightning crashes across the sky and shoots into a cross in the immediate area.
Hellraider prepares another nail. He grabs your right hand, holds it down, and drives a nail through your hand and into the cross.
Red lightning crashes across the sky and shoots into a cross in the immediate area.
Hellraider prepares another nail. He grabs both of your feet, holds them down, and drives a nail through your feet and into the cross.
Hellraider focuses his attention and the cross is surrounded by fae magic. Lightning cracks across the sky as the cross is lifted up and pounded into the ground. You have been crucified!
You hear Hellraider's booming laugh as he crucifies someone in the immediate area.
You have been KILLED!!

Thank you Ginia for sharing that hair raising death with us!
Medievia is not the place it used to be!!

In case you haven't had a chance to check it out, a brand new issue of the Medievia MUDSlinger was recently released!

Welcome to Medievia Talk & News

CLAN SHIPS are coming!! Rumor has it that clanships are arriving this week. They will be available for play 24/7. Get ready for battles on the high seas of Medievia.

This entirely new battle aspect of Med will soon include islands made entirely of cpk (chaotic player kill). For all you cpkers out there, hold on to your gear because this looks to be very interesting. You certainly wouldn't want a bad navigator crashing onto the shores of one of those unless you're ready to fight for life!

NEW PLAYER DRIVE! As most of you are already aware Medievia V has opened for play this summer! To take the best advantage of this Medievia needs more players! Lead the way for bringing up the total player base and increasing the sizes of our clans and forms. More players mean more fun!

Bring your friends to Medievia and show them what it's like to kill a dragon, loot gear from your enemies, and buy, sell, and trade your way into the best gear of the game!

Check out the following webpages to find out how you can support the game you love:

HELP!! HELLRAIDERS ARE TAKING OVER THE LAND! Hellraiders have been spotted crucifying victims and turning once safe wilderness areas in to areas of CPK. Beware!! There are citizens of Medievia who lurk these dark places looking for any opportunity to smite fear into the heart of Heroes who dare to enter.

Have you tried Medievia yet? Maybe it's time you did!
